First, there is the water.

Depending on the day and season, paddlers may spot turtles, birds, alligators, fish, and even manatees. Silver Springs is also famous for its population of rhesus monkeys, which have lived in the area for generations.

Plan Your Paddle Before You Go

Start early if you can. Florida mornings are generally cooler, the water can be calmer, and you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the river without rushing.

Bring water, sunscreen, appropriate footwear, and a waterproof way to protect your phone and belongings. Check the weather before you launch and know how far you plan to paddle before committing to a longer route.
